Of Stadiums and Spotlights

“A live concert to me is exciting because of all the electricity that is generated in the crowd and on stage. It’s my favorite part of the business, live concerts.” – Elvis Presley

This post is a compilation of the 2 concerts I attended this summer and will kickstart my concert post series.

If you live in the Philippines, you’ll understand how 2015 is the “big concert” year. Acts such as Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, The Script and The 1975 have had concerts here earlier this year. Last March, I attended the One Direction: On The Road Again Tour, and last June, Pentatonix’s On My Way Home Tour.

One Direction: On The Road Again Tour

I’ve been a fan of One Direction since their X-Factor days, so you could only imagine my reaction when I found out that they were coming to Manila. My mom and I lined up at 6 IN THE MORNING to get good seats for this show! (Crazy, I know.) We ended up getting the second best section for the concert, which felt AMAZING.

The Diamond Section. Look how close we were!

I attended the concert with my good friend Chelsy, my cousin Li, and my Tita Chiki and Tito Carlo (auntie & uncle in Filipino), who are all fellow 1D fans. The concert was crazy! Albeit performing without Zayn (who was taking a break due to stress, but later announced that he quit the band), the band showed their amazing talent and proved that they can actually sing.

Based on the concerts the band has done before, they never fail to make their fans happy and always keep them entertained. The Manila show definitely didn’t disappoint. From Harry saying he would arrest us because we were standing on chairs to them singing Happy Birthday to one of their crew members, it was such a fun night.

I also got a souvenir of my own: Harry Styles’ water bottle! He threw it at the audience and we happened to catch it! (Fangirl mode is DEFINITELY on. Haha.)

All in all, it was a great night. Definitely worth lining up for 7 hours for tickets. This night was definitely one for the books.

Pentatonix: On My Way Home Tour

Let me start off by saying that this was the coolest concert I’ve been to. In case you don’t know, Pentatonix is a five piece a capella group that won season 3 of The Sing-Off. Since then, they’ve been posting videos on their YouTube channel of their unique takes on famous songs and even a couple of medleys and original songs.

I attended the concert with my best friend, Zoe (link to her blog here), who is a huge fan of Pentatonix as well. She was definitely the perfect concert buddy because a) she’s a big fan like me, and b) she knew EVERY word (even background vocals) to EVERY song.

I honestly didn’t expect to see that many fans at the venue, but when the group came out, everyone (including myself and my best friend) was belting every word and dancing to every song. They even said that we were the craziest crowd they’ve experienced and that this was their favorite show ever.

My favorite part of the night? The crowd before the encore. Usually, we say “We want more!” before an artist comes back out to perform. This time was different. Before ending the first set, we (the crowd) were divided into 3 sections: Team Kirstie, Mitch and Scott. Each team had a part to sing, and when sung together, created an amazing harmony. So, instead of shouting “More!”, we sang all on our own. (Which worked in our favor, because they then called us the best singing crowd.)

So that was basically a summary of the two concerts I attended in summer 2015. These are two of the best nights of my life, and I can’t wait to share more of my future concert experiences with you guys.
